Package theft, or “porch piracy”, is a growing concern in residential communities. The good news is that there are concrete steps the board and management can take.
Set a single delivery point
When each carrier leaves packages in a different place, it is hard to know what arrived and who picked it up. Centralizing deliveries is the first step.
Record every delivery and pickup
A time-stamped record makes it easy to resolve questions quickly and discourages misuse.
Notify the resident immediately
The less time a package sits unclaimed, the lower the risk. Automatic notifications shorten that time.
Control access
Only the recipient should be able to retrieve their package. A unique code per delivery (PIN or QR) does this without relying on a person.
Communicate the rules to residents
- Explain where packages are delivered
- Explain how and when to pick them up
- Define what to do with large or perishable packages
A smart locker brings these measures together in one solution. See how easyDrop works.
